RV Camping Food - Lots of easy recipes, plus tips on planning and preparing food for your RV trip

I admit, I’m not much of a camper. I don’t enjoy sleep on the ground in a tent with no electricity or running water, especially when I have small children with me.  Camping is not for me, but “glamping,” on the other hand, is actually pretty fun. I get to enjoy the outdoors, with campfires, and all the fun parts of camping, but I still have access to amenities. You know, essential things, like a microwave, bed with memory foam, and air conditioning.

RVing

We’ve had so many fun adventures in our trailer already, and I hope the kids will look back on our trips as fondly as I do.  They like to take their bikes out and go exploring with the other kids in the campground, while we relax in our lawn chairs with our wine sippy cups (best invention ever!). Of course, I still have a toddler, so I can only relax so much with her around. But I do like it when she takes my hand and leads me around the campground, taking everything in. The world is so beautiful through her curious young eyes. Soon, she’ll be off on adventures with her older brothers, so I cherish this time when she still lets me be her guide on her explorations.

When I’m off making memories, I don’t want to spend a lot of time in a cramped RV kitchen, so I look for meal ideas that simple and quick. It’s best if there aren’t many ingredients involved, because the fridge storage is limited, as is the counter and cupboard space. I’ve collected some great recipes here for you that are perfect for RV camping.

Camping (or “Glamping”) Recipes

Breakfast:

Fried Granola from Chelsea’s Healthy Kitchen: This is one of Chelsea’s favourite camping recipes from her summers as a camp counselor. Ready in less than 10 minutes on the stovetop, it’s a fast and fun camping breakfast.

DIY Instant Oatmeal by Food & Whine: Make a jar of this instant oatmeal to bring along for a quick and nutritious breakfast. Just adding boiling water.

Lunch:

Pizza Muffins from Upbeet: Perfect portable food that your kids will love.  Take them with you on the road to your next camping adventure.

Meatball Sliders from Food & Whine: You can also make meatball subs, if you prefer, using hot dog buns instead of slider buns. If you’re having hot dogs at some point while camping, you’ll have the buns already. Just pack along some pre-made frozen meatballs, cook them in a saucepan with pasta sauce, and you’re set!

Tuna Waldorf Salad Pita Pockets from Food & Whine (courtesy of Moulinex): These mini pita pockets with tuna and fruit (yes, just try it!) are a tasty hand-held lunch, so you can skip plates and cutlery. Because no one wants to do dishes while camping.

BBQ:

Tava Chicken from Kravings Food Adventures: Marinated Chicken with onions and fragrant Indian spices.

Jamaican Jerk Chicken by The Bewitchin’ Kitchen: Grilled Chicken served with Pineapple Salsa and Spicy Aioli.

Peachy BBQ Chicken by Friday is Cake Night: Sweet and sticky chicken, using only 4 ingredients.

Pesto Chicken Kabobs by Food & Whine: Simple to make, and can be prepared ahead of time so they’re ready to put on the grill when you want them.

Salads:

Deliciously Simple Prosciutto Arugula Salad Rolls by She Eats: This is totally glamping food!  So quick, with almost no prep needed, and yet so sophisticated.

Spanish Chickpea Salad with Capers and Roasted Red Peppers by The Taste Space: Make it ahead of time, and let those beautiful flavours blend.  It’s a great side dish or a light lunch.

Pesto-Dressed Three Bean Salad by Swirls and Spice: This healthy salad is speedy to make, and sure to be a hit with the whole family.

Bean and Pecan Salad by Imagelicious: A unique protein-rich salad that’s ready in minutes, with hardly any ingredients.

Quick and Easy Lentil Salad by Food & Whine: Like the bean salads above, this lentil salad is great for camping because it keeps well without getting soggy. It’s also filling so it can be a great lunch on its own.

Tin Foil Packets:

Sausage in Tin Foil Dinner by Bakers Beans: A simple dinner wrapped in foil and cooked over the hot coals of a campfire.

Campfire Baked Potatoes by Kitchen Frau: Here’s a clever trick to avoid burning potato packet over the campfire.

Potatoes and Pepper Foil Packets by Food & Whine: A meatless recipe that can be used a side or the main event.

It’s a good idea to have a meal plan for your trip and buy what  you need ahead of time, so you don’t have to think about it too much when you’re enjoying yourself at the campground.  Here’s a sample meal plan that made up for our last trip, which was for 5 days: Camping Meal Plan

Pack condiments in little containers so you take up less space in your RV’s fridge. These Write On labels from Stuck on You are great for labeling all your containers and keeping your food organized.

Stuck on You Write on Labels for camping food prep

Stuck on You has all sorts of products for camping. If your kids are heading off to a summer camp this year, there are personalized travel items so their stuff won’t get lost. Along with the labels, Stuck on You sent us Personalized Travel Kits for the kids to try. We like to use the shower facilities when we’re RVing, because our RV shower is pretty tiny, so I love that you can hang these on the hook of the shower stall.  I think they’ll also be great for sleepovers, and trips to Grandma & Grandpa’s house.
