Yam Fries with Chipotle Dip

May 8, 2010 by Megan 2 Comments

Baked sweet yams with a spicy chipotle sauce for dipping. Perfect as a side or snack.

3 large yams or sweet potatoes
2 tsp olive oil

Seasoning salt to taste

Wash and peel yams. Cut into sticks like fries. Mix with olive oil and seasoning salt until coated. Spread onto a greased baking sheet and bake at 425F for 20-25 minutes, turning them halfway through baking time. Serve with chipotle dip (below).
Chipotle Dip
1/3 cup light mayonnaise
1/4 tsp Mrs. Dash Southwest Chipotle spice blend
Combine ingredients in a small bowl and serve with fries.

This tastes pretty close to the kind you get in restaurants, or I thought so anyway. I really love yams and sweet potatoes so this recipe is a real treat for me. I made it twice in one week. Unfortunately my boys don’t like yams, so they weren’t to interested in these fries. I thought I could entice Cole because he likes dipping things so much, but no go. Oh well, more for me! Tony liked them a lot too though so I had to share (darn it!).  The Mrs Dash seasoning was  something I bought for a recipe one time (I don’t even remember what it was) and I wasn’t sure I’d ever use it again but it turned out to be quite good in lots of things. It’s especially good in guacamole or in taco seasoning.

I love yam fries. This is close to my recipe too for making them, but I will try the dip for sure.
