This week has been all about grab-and-go breakfast ideas as many of us prepare to send the kids back to school and mornings become rushed again. Even if you don’t have kids and you just need to get yourself fed and out the door quickly, these ideas are sure to help you.
Today on the blog, I’m sharing a smoothie bowl recipe. And not just any smoothie bowl…a PUMPKIN smoothie bowl! It’s September and that means ’tis the season for pumpkin spice everything, so it seems appropriate.
If you’re not familiar with this yet, let me explain the latest craze that is the smoothie bowl. Smoothie bowls are basically really thick smoothies that you eat with a spoon. They’re typically served in a bowl (in case that part wasn’t obvious) and sprinkled with pretty rows of toppings, like fruit, nuts, seeds, granola, etc.
It’s really simple to take a smoothie bowl with you when you’re on-the-go in the morning. Want to know how? Just stick it in a thermos to help keep it cold and thick. So I guess you could actually call it a “Smoothie Thermos” since you’re not actually using a bowl. But you get the idea.
If you prefer drinking smoothies, simply add a little more milk to this recipe to thin it out, skip the toppings, and pour it in an insulated travel cup.
The boys actually hated this one. Cole was weirded out by the pumpkin flavor, and asked for water to rinse the taste out of his mouth (that’s probably a bad sign!). Bennett hates bananas in his smoothies, so he wouldn’t even try it. I ate it all and enjoyed it, because I happen to like both pumpkin and banana. Even though I didn’t win over the Whine Critics this time, I think a smoothie bowl in a thermos is a good concept, so I’ll be trying this again with other flavours.
What are some of your favourite smoothie bowl flavours?
